Crispy Strawberry Cream Cheese Wontons
Prep time: 15 mins | Cook time: 5 mins | Yields: 20–24 wontons
Ingredients
Wonton Wrappers: 1 package (square or round)Cream Cheese: 8 oz (225g), softened at room temperature
Fresh Strawberries: 1 cup, finely diced
Powdered Sugar: 3 tbsp (adjust to your preferred sweetness)
Vanilla Extract: ½ tsp
Egg Wash: 1 egg beaten with 1 tsp water (to seal the edges)
Oil: Vegetable or canola oil for frying
Optional Topping: Extra powdered sugar or a drizzle of honey
Instructions
1. Prepare the FillingIn a medium bowl, beat the softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth and creamy. Gently fold in the diced strawberries. Be careful not to over-mix, or the filling will become too watery.
2. The "Fold-and-Fill" Trick
Lay a few wonton wrappers on a clean surface. Keep the remaining wrappers under a damp paper towel so they don't dry out.
Place about 1 teaspoon of the filling in the center of each wrapper. Do not overfill, or they will burst during frying!
Dip your finger into the egg wash and lightly coat the outer edges of the wrapper.
The Fold: Bring two opposite corners together to form a triangle and press firmly to seal, removing any air bubbles. For a "star" shape, pull all four corners to the center and pinch the edges tight.
3. Fry to Perfection
Heat about 2 inches of oil in a deep pan or pot until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
Carefully slide 4–5 wontons into the hot oil. Fry for about 1–2 minutes per side, turning them until they are golden brown and blistered.
Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
4. Serve
Dust with powdered sugar while still warm. These are best served immediately for maximum crunch!
Pro Tips for Success
Seal it Tight: Ensure there are no gaps in the edges. If the cream cheese leaks into the oil, it will splatter.
Air Fryer Option: If you prefer a lighter version, spray the wontons with oil and air fry at 375°F (190°C) for 6–8 minutes, flipping halfway through.
Fruit Variety: You can easily swap strawberries for raspberries or even a dollop of strawberry jam if fresh berries aren't in season.
